La Serenissima is an addition to a larger body of interdisciplinary works meant to document my experience of Italy and comment on the culture(s) I have not only witnessed but internalized. Born and raised in New York by ornate lighting dealers, I spent my childhood coming to and from Italy, specifically to Milano and the small islands off Venezia. This was my first time seeing people live such fully immersed lives, and at the same time, completely dependent on one another.

I basked in the beautiful culture of cultivating relationships and took note of the common themes that play out among the people stretching from the far north to the south. La Serenissima represents my first independent step into the culture I wanted Italy to be. This theme, to be interpreted by the viewer, represents my fantasy mixing with the harsh reality of the unknown that lies ahead.
